Day 2
We headed to the Portobello Road Market after a quick breakfast at the Hotel.
Portobello was
incredible...lots of wonderful antiques!! And then off to Big Ben!
The house where George Orwell lived..on the way to Portobello Road
Scenes from Portobello Road. I bought several pieces of jewelry, Kev got an antique
inkwell, and we also got several books. Kev also got a "lease" from 1887 to frame
for his office at work..it even has a drawing of the property on it..he was extremely
excited about this find!!
It started raining as we left the market..but we still headed for Big Ben. When
we came out of the tube station I said "wow, look at that cool clock" to Kev..and then
I realized it was BIG BEN!! WOW!! It was right there...everytime we stepped out of the
tube it seemed there was something else amazing to greet us!
The Houses of Parliament
Westminster Abbey
A last look at Big Ben as the sun was setting...then back to the Hotel for a break and
to dry off..as there was a steady rain by now...and we had no "brolly".
The rain slacked off enough for us to go out after dark to see Piccadilly Circus..Not
as "in your face" as Times Square...but it goes on for what seems like blocks!! The Swiss
Tourist Board has the most amazing clock. It has a glockenspiel. We couldn't believe
our luck..we knew nothing about the clock and just happened to catch one of the only
performances of the day! Dinner was at a wonderful Morrocan/African Restaurant called
Souk. It was in a basement and it felt as though we stepped off of the
Caravan right into the Sultan's tents..the food and service were EXCELLENT!!
It was then off to bed and the BBC...I can definitely understand
why there are satellite dishes everywhere...BBC isn't exactly our cup of tea on a
regular basis..:-)
